On Sunday 19 September, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced ‘Victoria’s Roadmap to Deliver the National Plan’. The Roadmap forms part of a national shift away from lockdowns and towards vaccination being the key protection against COVID-19.

The new Roadmap has various consequences for employers and employees. Once 80% of Victorians aged 16 + are vaccinated (projected to be 5 November), Victorians will be able to go to the workplace if they are fully vaccinated – with masks to be worn indoors in workplaces.

The Victorian government will adopt a sector-by-sector approach to workplace vaccination, where Victoria’s Chief Health Officer will assess vaccination requirements and deadlines for all authorised workers in Victoria. There are already vaccine requirements for aged care, construction, and freight workforces. Healthcare workers will likely be the next workforce to have vaccination become a requirement to work. The Victorian Government will then prioritise its assessment of vaccine requirements for school and childcare staff.
