Nancy Abdalla

Associate

Nancy’s interests in employment law developed when she commenced her legal career at the Fair Work Commission assessing applications for approval of enterprise agreements. Prior to coming to Justitia, Nancy worked in various teams at the Commission, including as an associate to a Commission Member and has broad experience in the Commission’s jurisdiction. Nancy has also worked in Freedom of Information and Privacy law.

Areas of Practice

Nancy’s experience includes assessment of enterprise agreements to determine whether they’re compliant with the statutory requirements under the Fair Work Act 2009, including the Better Off Overall Test and interpretation of awards and contracts. Nancy’s experience at the Commission means she knows the ins and outs of the Commission’s procedures and processes. Nancy is particularly interested in building committed and long-term relationships with clients by providing advice that is practical and solutions focused.

Recent examples of work undertaken by Nancy include:

  • Drafting mandatory vaccination policy
  • Conducting Workplace Investigations
  • Determining award coverage for an employer
  • Updating a client’s whistleblower policy to ensure compliance with reforms in Australia’s whistleblower laws.

Professional and community engagement

In 2023, Nancy was listed as a Doyle’s Guide 2023 Victorian Employment & WHS Law Rising Star. Nancy is a member of Victorian Women Lawyers and currently volunteers on their Publications Committee. Nancy is also a member of the Muslim Legal Network.
