Nicola has a unique view of employment law having gained experience in the public sector before joining Justitia. This is where she has developed her interest in the regulation of industrial relations and workplace more generally.

Areas of Practice

Nicola practices in employment, discrimination and industrial relations law.

Nicola has most recently worked at the Australian Building and Construction Commission (formerly the Fair Work Building and Construction) where she developed her knowledge about enterprise agreements in the construction industry and interpreting industrial instruments under the Fair Work Act more generally.

Experience and expertise

  • Assessing enterprise agreements for compliance with the Tendering and Performance of Building Work Act 2016 (the Building Code).
  • Considering whether industrial instruments meet the requirements of the Fair Work Act 2009.
  • Advising and assisting on Unfair Dismissal and General Protections matters in the Fair Work Commission, Federal Circuit Court and the Full Federal Court.
  • Advising on employment contracts and award compliance.

Professional and community engagement

Nicola is a member of Victorian Women Lawyers. She has also volunteered at Jobwatch, assisting vulnerable workers with employment law issues.
