Does your organisation have a touch point with children and/or young people under 18? Then you will be covered by Victoria’s RCS.
We have created this special programme to help support our clients that have child safety responsibilities and may be required to conduct investigations into allegations of misconduct.
The requirements of the RCS are specific and must be complied with. The possibility of adverse findings means careful planning and support is critical. We help organisations and investigators navigate the RCS, as well as the impact on investigation participants.
Who is this for?
This practical training session is designed for anyone who is required to conduct, or manage, RCS investigations. You may be new to the scheme, looking for a refresh on requirements and definitions, or wanting to hear about recent developments and practical approaches.
Programme Outline
In our programme, participants will learn how to frame reportable conduct allegations, plan and conduct investigations to best-practice standards.
We will examine:
- what constitutes significant emotional, psychological harm or neglect
- borderline conduct
- how to conduct preliminary enquiries to determine whether a matter is reportable, and
- balancing obligations regarding child safety, procedural fairness and confidentiality.
We also consider questions such as:
- Do we need to stand the staff member down?
- When should the staff member be notified of the allegations?
- How to assess situations with two conflicting accounts and no witnesses?
- What can/should be disclosed to families/other staff?
We will draw on real case studies illustrating where employers have come unstuck and what can be learned from those experiences.
This programme takes 3 hours and will take place on a date to be confirmed once expressions of interest have been reviewed.
Our training
Justitia has a popular online training programme for conducting workplace investigations. Our trainers are themselves experienced investigators who conduct investigations in compliance with the RCS.
This programme has been developed specifically to address RCS requirements but also provides an opportunity for participants to share challenges. Our trainers provide a supportive environment for questions and learning.
